Book Excerpts

The following are two excerpts from the book I recently wrote about my grandfather, Dr. Alvin Cohen, may he rest in peace. The idea for the book was conceived when he received a diagnosis of terminal cancer. Wanting to preserve his memories and life story, I spent many hours interviewing him and rewriting the interviews in story form. Besides for being one of my most favorite people, my grandfather did a tremendous amount for me. Writing his life story and presenting it to him in a professionally typeset and bound book was the first time I could do something for him. The book was completed one week before my grandfather passed away.

Nechamie,

Your book is unbelievable! It was so enriching to read about Zaidy's life and your writing is so compelling. I started, and didn't put it down until I was done- the whole flight home! You have given such a treasure to all of Zaidy's grandchildren, great-grandchildren and beyond!

The way you write transports us to your Zeidi's very feelings, with a lot of sense or humor. And by the way, dieting is a real problem. The more you worry about it and the more you try to go without this and that, more this same "this and that" keeps teasing you in an almost incontrolable manner. But do you know what? It's good to know we're not the only ones to have this sort of problem. Now I say that "3 (or may be 6, or may be 9) pieces of chocolate a day, watches your weight"
